Paid to Work

Sheng is a clerk at a store. Her job is to be kind and helpful. She greets people with a smile. She scans the things people want to buy. She takes their money and puts it in the till. She says, “Thank you. Have a nice day.”

Sheng sees many friends at her job. She smiles and says hi to them. They talk for a short time. Her friends want to talk more. She asks to see them after work and says goodbye.

Last week her boss warned her about talking to friends while working. He pays her to do her job. He does not pay her to talk to friends. Sheng likes her job and wants to keep it.
