Reading Skills for Today's Adults

Pam wakes up. The room is cold. She puts on a robe and walks into the living room. That room is cold too. The whole house is cold.

It is 55 degrees in her home. There is no heat. Pam checks the furnace. It is not working. Pam needs help.

She has no internet at home. She has no signal on her cell phone.

​

She gets the phone book and looks in the yellow pages. First, she finds the H’s. Then she looks for the word heating.

​

The first name she sees is Hal’s Heating. She calls Hal. She says, “My house is cold. My furnace is not working. Please send someone to fix it.”  

Hal sends one of his workers to Pam’s house. He makes the repair. Pam has heat! She is glad that she had the yellow pages in her home.
